During his tenure as CEO, Splunk has extended its focus from big data analytics to security analytics. He then served as CEO of Baynote, a behavioral analytics company focused on ecommerce optimization, for one year, before becoming a Senior Vice President for product and solution marketing at Cisco from 2012 to 2014. During the dot-com crash, Merritt sold Icarian to WorkStream and moved on to PeopleSoft from 2001 until 2004. He raised $79 million for the company and served as its CEO until 2001. In 1996, Merritt co-founded Icarian, Inc., a cloud-based enterprise software company focused on human resources and workforce management. Merritt's family moved more than 10 times during his youth, spending time in Mexico City, Arizona, and many other places.
